Hi
Can I have an ID on this please? It sprung up in one of my pots and I have tolerated it as it rather liked it’s habit and foliage. Before I compost it, it would be nice to know it’s name.
Thanks

    Looks like red dead nettle to me. You say thistle, does it has spikes on it somewhere? I wouldnt compost it if it has gone to seed though, unless you want loads more of them.
  • Thanks for the suggestion Bijdezee. I’m not sure though- having just googled it. The flowers are similar, but the leaves are thinner, more pinnate.

    Possible Lamium orvala ... but not sure about it

    @nutcutlet ... are you about?

  • Thanks Dove. Again, good shout, but the shape of the leaves seems to be different. The flowers are very similar though.

    Yes, i see now that the leaves are rounded on the dead nettle and more pointed on yours. Interesting.

    Have a look at Betony .... Betonica officinalis

    Hemp nettle ... Galeopsis tetrahit  or even Galeopsis speciaosa, the Large flowered Hemp nettle

    and Wood woundwort ... Stachys sylvatica

    and see what you think ...
