New lawn in a heatwave?

Good evening

I have done a quick few searches but haven’t found what I’m looking for yet, so, I’m hoping to get some advice here if possible. My apologies if this has already been posted, I am a total gardening novice (as my name suggests) I’ve just moved in to my new home and my garden deserves the right care and attention, so here goes!

I have a new build home and the lawn was laid 2 weeks ago. I’ve done some reading up on watering and think we’ve got that right now (I hope). The lawn has flourished and grown significantly with the flour opus weather and daily watering, so I’m here to ensure I can keep things going well.

My main concern at this point is the cutting of the lawn. We were advised 4-6 weeks in, but I am wondering if this should be any sooner given the conditions it’s growing under. It seems rather long already and I wonder what it will be like after another 4 weeks or so if growth!?

Any advice at this point would be hugely appreciated. If this information exists already, if someone could kindly point me to it I’d be very grateful.

Claire

Assuming you are in a new build, you have a water meter. Totally the wrong time to lay a lawn. Keep watering, and cut on the highest setting of the mower, once a week.  You will have a big water bill.
  • Yes I’m expecting a big bill you’re correct, the first time I’ve been wanting rain in the summer I’d say! I think it needs a cut by looking at it.
