Recommendation for Hydrangea with red autumn colour

PinkrupeePinkrupee Posts: 2
Can anyone recommend a pink (or possibly white - but preferably pink) hydrangea that changes to a deep red in autumn rather than the papery brown my current ones do. I've seen some lovely ones in the local area but don't know what variety they are. Thanks!

For good Autumn leaf colour , how about Hydrangea quercifolia (Oakleaf Hydrangea) ; white flower panicles and attractive foliage too .

    Yup  - they're great  :)
    One of mine last autumn

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I look after a property in the Lincolnshire Wolds (an old rectory) ; they have a very large specimen of this growing in a damp semi-shaded glade .
The garden backs onto a very old churchyard ; idyllic on a damp autumnal day , the reddish foliage against a backdrop of Yew , Holly and the ancient grey stones of the church itself .
    Beautiful !

Sounds really good Paul. They'll take a bit more sun and drier soil than the usual hydrangeas too.

My Hydrangea aspera subsp.sargentiana is still managing to flourish ; now approaching nine-weeks with no rainfall (E.Lincs) .
We're re-using all available used water  , even though there's no talk of a ban yet .

Annoyingly and ironically , there has been a quite serious water leak at the end of our road for over a week now ; Anglian Water are 'aware' of it , so they're informing people who have complained .
    How ridiculous is that ?

Thanks Paul, I'm really keen on a plant with red blooms. I think I'm going to have to go knocking on doors when the autumn comes and beg for cuttings. I did plant 5 quercifolia a few years ago. 2 of them died and the dog dug up the other 3, so I daren't risk the expense again!
