Indoor gardens

I decided to combine my 2 loves of gardening and all things reptilian, amphibian etc and transform my empty fish tank into a micro habitat. I'm going to see how the plants do first before adding maybe some dart frogs and neon tetra fish. Im going to add a fogger/humidifier too which will look great. I'd love to see other people's indoor gardens whether it be a terrarium or butterfly house (I dream of having one of those!) or even a bonsai or cactus display.

I like bottle gardens and have a couple of nice containers. However they are currently empty as I find it nearly impossible to find suitable small plants for them. In the past I've used creeping fig, peperomias, dwarf African violets and small asparagus ferns, among others, but never see any of them on sale around here.
You have to have things that will cope with the damp atmosphere without succumbing to grey mould, and check them daily.

It's worth following James Wong on Twitter or Instagram (@botanygeek), if you don't already, for lots of pictures and ideas.

I'll be keeping a close eye on them buttercup days and watching for the dreaded mould, thankyou. And I'll certainly see what James Wong is up to LG, I've just been watching him on Garden Revival, Tropical gardens that I'd recorded :) I bought some of his range of seed packets such as Callaloo and liquorice etc a couple of years ago but they don't seem to be stocked in my local garden centres anymore :( I wasn't very successful in growing them so would love to try again.

You will probably need some sort of water filter for neon fish, and a heater, etc.  A betta male and three females would probably be happier in those conditions.. and add some amazing colors.  Your tank looks great, btw.  I used to have a variety of live plants in my 40g fish tank, until my son won some goldfish at the school fair.  They made quick work of my snails and live plants.  He loves them, unfortunantly, so it's now plastic plants (until they go to the fish bowl in the sky).

Yes Blue Onion, there is a heater and filter (though i think i'll put a smaller one in, its a bit overkill for the amount of water) in there on the right. It previously had tropical fish in it. I like your idea of the bettas!  I have brought the plants in from their 'holiday' outside and have spotted a couple of minutes slugs on the glass, but other than that all is well up to now. I'm wondering if the plants will be OK under the light conditions that they have or if they would be best with a dayglo?? bulb? I don't want them outgrowing the space quickly like what usually happens when I've done a smaller terrarium, especially if I end up putting dart or reed frogs in there and have to constantly disturb them.
