Mallow Malva Alba stopped flowering

Help. I filled my small garden with new plants this summer but most of their flowers have been short lived due to the all being in their first year. I eagerly awaited the flowering of my mallow which should flower from June through to October. It burst into a glorious profusion of flowers on 25th June. Every morning, it has greeted me clothed in a thousand shiny white trumpets. But yesterday, it stopped. What's happening?  I have watered it most mornings throughout the drought.

    Did you deadhead it?
Plants stop flowering when they have completed their task of ensuring enough seed for the next generation.
Removing dead flowers prevents them reaching this point, so flowering continues.
  • The flowers just fall off when they're done and I can't tell the difference between the spent seedheads and the ones containing buds.van you explain what to do?

Take them off when you see a droopy flower.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Ok. Thank you 😃
