Hi all,

I'm hoping somebody can tell me, please, which of these is soapwort (if either) and what the other one might be? They’re both perennial.

many thanks in advance.

Hi Clematiscrazy. They both look like different types of Silene to me.

The bottom one could be soapwort ... our neighbour grows the double form and it comes under the fence ... the leaves look very similar to the ones at the bottom of the second pic ...

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • That’s brilliant, thank you all so much. I think the top one is white campion. I grew them all from the same packet of seeds so I’m not sure what happened there! I like both though so they’re staying, but it’s nice to know what’s what!

Pretty sure the bottom one is soapwort, looks just like my mothers. Word of warning, it SPREADS it was in an old pond and it got out and came up under all the paving all around the area, it seemed to spread both by roots and by seeding.
