Is it ok to lightly prune my Fig tree in summer?

Hi
Back in February I pruned my overgrown Brown Turkey  fig tree by almost one third and I pruned back some of the roots placing in concrete tiles to restrict roots.

Now the tree has a lot of fleshy summer growth and new shoots almost a foot in height. I don’t want the tree to get too tall like it used to be. Is it ok for me to prune out those new green shoots now or should I wait until autumn? I was hoping if I prune the shoots now it will encourage side shoots lower down.

Any opinions?

(Btw the tree has a lot of figs to pick soon :)

I tip prune new growth back to five leaves in July.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
