Hi, I have three trees and one herbaceous perennial to id if poss? The photos show the leaves of the trees then the tree itself in case that helps at all. The perennial is obviously the last pic. Many thanks so anyone that can help at all.
Acers? That never crossed my mind. I thought acer leaves were more sycamore shaped rather than long? I have to agree with the keys though, but they're in long racemes rather than dotted over the tree individually. I also thought verbascum so thanks for the confirmation.

Wow SS, what a lot of information. I don't think they're poplar Fire, but thank you. Do the very red stems help the id at all (would that work for acers?).
Interesting, I would never have worked out the first tree as an Acer. The middle tree, or is that the last tree certainly looks it. Have a look at Acer Davidii. Snake bark maple. Could be totally wrong as never seen them. The last photo could be Verbascum Nigrum 'Album'.

Some Acers have huge leaves ...others small..eg Acer campestre.

Even the seed pods /sumara vary.Different angles etc.

The leaf shape, mat or gloss, texture matters.

I love Acers and grew many different sp...all are wonderful..especially in the autumn.
