Thistle flowers - leave or deadhead?

Lizzie27Lizzie27 Posts: 12,494
In my tiny wild flower patch this year, a large thistle arrived with lovely purple flowers which are now going over. I'm aware some birds like the seed ? but don't want it self seeding everywhere as it's next to a lawn (or what was a lawn before this heatwave!) - What should I do?
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone

    I can't think of a third option!

Cut the seed heads off (with stalks) and hang them up somewhere away from the lawn but where the birds can get to them?
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
