Lobelia cardinalis in a pot

Has anybody tried growing Lobelia cardinalis in a pot. I've grown it in the soil, but I always find myself fighting a losing battle with the slugs and snails, they just ravage it.

They'll get into pots too if you don't take precautions.

Grew some from seed and left them in pots for 2 years. Planted them into the garden last year and they were beautiful. Haven't reappeared so Easterly or slimy beasts have got them.

They don’t over winter for me either, I used to dig them up and bring them in, don’t bother now, I can do without the extra work.

I've got Queen Victoria in a large plastic pot, has been potted for a couple of years as it used to get stripped in the garden. I find it doesn't need as much watering as I would have thought, at the moment it's getting soapy waste water every few days.

I've had Bees Flame in the ground for a few years and that has never been touched as far as I noticed.
