Hi Teresa, do you know which variety it is ?
Also any chance you could post a photo of it ?  :)

It's probably dehydrated, and is therefore conserving what moisture it has  :)
Many of these plants are forced into early growth too [hence the early flowers ] so it can come as a shock when they get placed in normal gardens. If it's a new plant to you - it could be a combination of both.
If you have a photo - that will help with further suggestions, but lack of water is the most likely explanation   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Do they look like this, it will be ages before mine are out, or are they brown and shrivelled, if so that will be the sun dried them.
a lot of plants this year are suffering from lack of rain, hopefully it won’t be so bad next year and our gardens will be back to normal.

I think lots of water and a fair amount of patience will sort them out  :)
You really can't over-water hydrangeas in this sort of weather.

Thanks for all your comments. I will try giving them extra water.

I am having to water mine every other day, they are thirsty plants and best grown with some shade unless they are paniculatas which seem to cope in full sun
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.”

I confess to using the hosepipe on my hydrangea twice a week throughout this period of heat.  Most other shrubs are getting by without being watered.

My hydrangea in the ground appears to be doing ok, but the ones I have in pots are yellowing.
