Problem with Katsura tree Cercidiphyllum japonicum

Hopefully someone will be able to.help.me.with this. I bought this katsura tree about two years ago. It sat in my back garden for about a week and then I planted it in the front garden. It was lovely lush and green then but since being in the garden has taken on a wisened look. The leaves come in every spring but develop black spots, curl in at the end and eventually crumble off. This goes on all summer. I never get the autumn colour, this process goes.on until the tree goes dormant for winter.

I have been keeping it watered in these dry conditions but this happened last year also when rainfall was plenty. Has anyone any idea what it is/what I should do?

Two possible reasons :- a lack of nutrients in the soil ; they appreciate a deep moist and rich loam . Rainwater (joke) is beneficial too . Feed generously during the growing season.
Red-spider mite can be a problem with these (not the tiny red spiders seen on walls) ; take a lens and look for minute dark red 'grubs' ; these feed on the plant and literally suck the life out of it ! Thin web-like structures may be seen , hence the name .
If so , spray the undersides or treat with a systemic insecticide .
