Mildew on my Dahlia's

I have been growing on four  dahlias, Kilburn Glow purchased from the nursery this year, they arrived as garden ready. There has been building work in the front garden so I have been holding back planting them incase they got trodden on. But they have now got mildew. Will this kill them or is there a solution as they cost me a fair amount of money.

Advice greatly appreciated.

All I can suggest is that you pot them into a bigger pot, and keep them well watered and fed. A healthy plant will be less likely to mildew , and with luck will outgrow it.

Thanks. I should be able to plant them in a couple of days, will a fungicide help to rid them of mildew or is it to late.

I think the mistake I made was leaving them out in full sun.

I have dahlias in full sun. Even in the ground, and watered every day, they are not coping well in this heat, often flagging. Most years it would not be a problem. If you can put a tray under the pots, water until they are standing in water, and let them stand for an hour or two so that they really soak it up. Pots just watered from the top are often quite dry when you tip them out, and this is the main problem.

I have a big dahlia - maybe three-four ft of growth, just budding. It's in a big pot and I could put it in the ground, but with the water situ I think perhaps keeping in a pot might make it easier to water and keep happy.... I use a deep saucer and wait for water to flood out of the bottom. Then let it soak.
