Rnner Bean flowers but no bean

I hae some ver healthy looking unner beans - Scarlet Emporer. They flower well, but hardly any beans. All i see is a tiny stalk but no actual bean. This is the second summber this has happened and it;s a mystery. Last year we eventually got some crop, but less than expected. It's been very hot, circa 30 degrees, but the plants have been watered daily

Any ideas please?

Mice? Pigeons? Heat?

    Its the heat. Keep watering as dryness at the roots  does not help.

    Gently spraying the whole plant from top to toe after the sun's gone down sometimes works. The roots need lots of water too of course as fidgetbones has already said.
