Corkscrew hazel leaf browning

Hi, my Corkscrew Hazel has been planted for a good five or six months now and Leafed out nicely in the spring. However recently a couple of the leaves started browning (from the middle not from the tips) and despite watering regularly this seems to have worsened (see pictures below).

No leaves have actually dropped… And there are signs of new green growth still.

Has anybody seen anything like this before?  Or have any ideas what might cause it?   We are in Sussex, okay… and I have another Corkscrew Hazel (planted more recently) which doesn’t have this issue.

When you watered it, could you have splashed the leaves? That looks to me a bit like water 'burns'. The sun's heat is magnified by the droplets and causes damage in a splash pattern.

Yes that is possible ... it sits in quite a sunny spot.   But the various plants next to it would have had the same amount of leaf splash and none of these seem affected ...

Some can be more vulnerable than others, but see what other people have to say - I could be completely wrong!
  • Thank you @Posy your analysis seems right here … I inspected some nearby plants and a few showed some splash drops.  New green leaves are appearing so it doesn't seem like disease.
