Log wall?

If I were cladding an existing brick wall in wood I'd attach tanalised 50mmx50mm (2"x2") batten vertically to the wall, fit a black breather paper such as Tyvek to the face of that and then fix the wood (in this case using concealed fixings of some kind). Start the batten at least 150mm above ground level or above the damp proof course and fit an insect proof ventilation mesh along the bottom. The Tyvek is only necessary as your wood won't be very water resistant due to all the gaps so any water running through is stopped by the Tyvek and the 50mm cavity prevents wind pressure allowing it to wet the brick wall. For a permanent job you could cut a line of lead flashing in above the logs.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I would say be careful if you are close to the pavement. A stray cigarette end could burn the house down. I see smokers throwing lit fag ends out of car windows , with no care whatsoever for dry grass, leaking petrol, babys pram, or anything else.
Our cold wall is lined on the inside with a thin layer of expanded polystrene foam wall paper under the normal wall paper.
