Two plants need names

davemeddavemed Posts: 80
I have two plants that need naming and how to care for them.  The shrub gets white flowers on that last a while. Would appreciate any advice on cultivation and pruning.

the top one is one of the cultivars of Prunus laurocerasus, 'Otto Luyken' maybe.
I think the other is one of the stripey Miscanthus, there are a few to choose from and they all look the same to me. 'Zebrinus' is one of them

The top photo looks like Prunus Lauroceracus 'Otto Luyken'. A low growing evergreen shrub that needs very little care apart from pruning to shape if you want. Can be pruned after flowers have faded. Grows up to a meter or taller in ideal conditions, but generally quite slow growing. Can do well in sun or semi shade and they are undemanding with soils.

The second photo looks like Miscanthus Sinensis 'Zebrinus'. They go better in moist soil but can do fine in drier soils. Again, quite low maintenance. They should die down in the winter months. Prefers a sunny location but will do fine in partial shade too.

Thank you both for your posts and answers.  I will look up what you have said and get a better idea of what to do besides what you have mentioned.

I would call them "Morecombe" and "Wise" . Sorry Dave, don't mind me, it's the heat.  :)  B)
