Caterpillars

Help, these are eating my roseswhat are they & what can I do to get rid of them?

  • Personally I would either squish them in my fingers, put them on the bird table, or put them in another part of your garden where they wouldn't cause a problem. I don't use chemicals and would rather a bird had a good feed on them.  I hope they haven't done too much damage to your roses.

    These are sawfly larvae or maybe slugworms, and they are munching your roses. You probably missed the eggs being laid in spring. As Guernsey Donkey2 suggests, just remove or squish them. There is not a lot that can be done. They will make the rose leaves look tatty but will not kill your rose.

    Thank you, I will put them out for the birds to eat, I prefer not to use chemicals. I think the roses will be alright just a bit bare of leaves. I will look out for the eggs next year.
