Can anyone tell what this is please , also would like advice on what to do , should i cut it back ?

    It could be a Cotoneaster shrub. Very hard to see the top leaves, so not totally sure. Did you see any small flowers in spring to early summer? If Cotoneaster, you can cut it back now to what shape you want, it's looking like it needs rejuvenation anyway. That should help bring up new shoots, so more leaves.

    Did have flowers in spring /early summer lots of them looked beautiful, had rhodium's next to it which have been removed as they were looking worse for wear not many flowers on them, wear would be the best place to cut this back suggestions please

    There appears to be two there. A weed tree going straight up, and a shrub.  What were the flowers like. ?

    Have just googled cotoneaster and the flower's were the same as cotoneaster lucidus

    Remove the tree with big leaves. Cut the cotoneaster down in winter to half the size. It should regenerate into a better shape.

    Thank you, as I've also had rhododendrons in the ground next to cotoneaster which have been removed do I need to do anything to improve the soil before planting new plants

    Normally it is always good to incorporate compost or well rotted manure into the soil and dig it all in so the soil is refreshed and not compacted.
