common primrose and denticulata in summer

UpNorthUpNorth Posts: 376
some common primrise and some newly planted denticulata.

I didn't pay any attention to these last year (just the common), but just want to check it's okay the foliage on both is now looking a bit ropey and slowly dieing down?

hoping it's not the dry weather.  i have watered a few times over the ten weeks or so, especially a few i divided.

Shouldn't be anything to worry about ... they usually die down in the summer  :)

I have just cut the remaining  leaves right off to the ground, I do this every year, not only in hot dry weather. I have so many of those denticulata every year I have to put them in the compost bin.
If anyone wants some, please let me know.

I've just been cutting some of mine back too. They tend to flower off and on all year here [the little native ones anyway ] and we get huge amounts of foliage which I'm always having to hack back. Even in this long dry spell, there's tons of it!
Is it the lilac ones you have Lyn? I have a few of those, and quite like them for the colour in spring.  I've just sown some seeds of white ones, but I don't know if I'll be successful with them.

Yes FG, lilac and white. I love them but the lilac ones are thugs.
I haven’t tried them from seed but I have saved the seed from the candelabra types, not sure of the real name.  Do they come true to colour or do they cross?

No idea Lyn! I bought some seed on a whim, but I think I'll buy a couple of plants as well - as backup   :)
The lilac ones were here when I moved in, but were hidden under the big rhodie at the fro t door. I moved a couple to better sites , and I think they have seeded around a little, and they're certainly all lilac.
