Hover Flies

How to get rid of Hover flies? My brickwork mortar joints are constructed of Lime
sand and cement. The flies are making nesting holes in the joints.
What's the solution, other than having to re-point all of the brickworck.
Any advice please.

They aren't hover flies, they'll be some of the many types of Masonry bees ... in general they're a good thing to have in your garden.  They can sometimes cause minor problems with lime mortar ... this is how  the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings approach the issue.
