Re-potting callicarpa profusion

i bought 3 callicarpas a few years ago and repotted them into what I thought was a large enough planter last year ( how wrong was I). I’m just wondering if I will kill them if I repot them into an even larger, deeper planter in the next few weeks?  Because of the heat all the leaves look like they are wilted and I’m pretty sure they are ‘planter’ bound. I water them every evening when I get home from work. Also how easy is it to separate them as it seems all three have intertwined roots. I’m getting a much bigger blocx planter and would like to space them out a bit. Any advice is greatly appreciated x

  • Hi Ali,
When you planted them up, why didn't you put them in separate pots?  They are shrubs.
Carefully dump out the pot. Carefully disengage the roots as much as you can, and when carefully hasn't worked, pull. Plant them up in separate - large - containers, water like mad and hope for the best.  That's what I would do.  :open_mouth:

  • Is there any reason why you have decided to grow your callicarpa in pots as they do eventually grow into very large shrubs and are always happier planted in the ground. If you repot them now you will have to water them every morning and evening to keep them going during this heat. You will need pots a couple of feet in diameter minimum to grow your plants happily.

Thanks both for you advice. Unfortunately my whole garden is patio’d so I can’t plant them in the ground. I didn’t realise they would get so big but I love the purple berries. The new planter is going to be almost 2 meters in length and 3/4 of a meter wide. It will also be 65 cm deep. Would this be enough room?
