Removing decking

    Fairygirl that is so cute!
That decking looked good. We've had to remove ours as it had been there for twenty years, and was in a dangerous condition as it was high up.We've been told that the previous owners, used to paint on wood preserver, then a few days later....Jetwash it,removing the preserver!!
It's difficult stuff to move and get rid,it cost a fortune to dispose of,but underneath was a concrete terrace with proper safe steps. It's all been nicely slabbed now, with big rocks each side of the steps, shoring up the soil, which is now planted up with perennials.
I suspect a lot of people are replacing what was once a very popular trend.....decking!

I loved my deck - I know many people hate them though. Ex hubby and I did it all ourselves, apart from notching out the posts to attach them to the balustrading. Our joiner neighbour did that for us.
I do think the maintenance is important. Our was treated every 2nd year or so, just with a proprietary product. I never jet washed it, as that's bad for the grain. I just gave it a going over with a sturdy brush and a little water with a drop of washing up liquid, in spring. That kept it tidy all summer. We always had a lot of rainfall, but it never really got slippy as it was in the right aspect.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Valley Gardener any chance of pics of your nice slabs? I'm still pondering paving. Thanks

Fire I really have to update myself!! I have a very ancient Kindle fire tablet, which doesn't include a camera! If I ever get myself sorted I would love to post pics. I'm a bit away with the Fairies, not at all technical pc wise, preferring my garden and all things Arty!
I'm pleased with the slabs though, they are nicer than concrete or decking, easy to wash down. As we go downhill, there is a level of paving enough for a bench and comfy deck chairs, then down five steps to another level of paving, where the tubs of flowers are, long and narrow as most Welsh gardens are! Fortunately ours goes down instead of up,so at least there is a view!
