Italian cypress in container?

Has anyone tried growing one in a pot to restrict its growth? I'd like two sentinels and don't mind how tall they get but don't want them getting wider than a meter or so. Otherwise we could try a smaller conifer but really love the tall narrow look of the Italian spires.

These need a sheltered site in full sun. There is some good information here http://homeguides.sfgate.com/italian-cypress-pots-95472.html

Thanks for that. Seems they tolerate root pruning which would hopefully keep them to a manageable size.

I've had one for two years in quite a small pot because of where I wanted to put it. Has survived quite a lot of neglect so far and just got taller - now about 3-4 ft but very narrow. Have had to tie it to a convenient nail on the wall because the wind has knocked it over a couple of times. I must find a taller narrow pot to give the roots more room.

Tied to the wall would be a good idea in our windy garden!
