I have just had my first year with a geranium Himalayense, it has now finished flowering. I didn't realize that I should cut it back. I am hoping to grow more of these plants from seed for flowering next year. Has anyone tried growing them from seed, and how successful was it. I collected the dried seed yesterday evening.
I normally divide them to get more, very easy. i feel like I haven't been paying much attention to what happens to mine after cutting back and I've been doing it for years, !!
A friend had a lot of macrorhizum as ground cover, it had been there a long time and was very leggy, so she did give it a hard chop and it bounced back very fresh looking.
I don't generally cut Rozanne back because she is at peak flower now and keeps going for many weeks yet. And I also don't cut back Ann Folkard as she's also still going strong and keeps flowering. The rest I do cut to the ground although I leave any very young leaves just emerging.

This one does only flower early on but it has lovely scented foliage which colours up in winter. I would suggest tidying, rather than scalping. Just pull off spent flower stems and tattier leaves from round the edges as you see them.
Mmm that's a pity, was hoping for more flowers since it's still quite early in the summer.
Just been to a NG open day very close to me & the Rozanne’s were gorgeous, in full flower. I don’t know names to mine as they were here or I’ve bought some from local plant sales or divisions from friends. THANKS for everyone’s thoughts.
