I have received some really helpful comments from Marshalls that does not affect other wildlife.
    ------------------
Presumably in exactly the same way that Glyphosate is harmless to other wildlife.
  • You presume wrong.

    No more comments please

The most toxic substance that I use on my garden is water with a little washing up liquid .
It certainly doesn’t eradicate the pests but it keeps them at acceptable numbers . To be honest I have an aversion to killing things and I will tolerate most insects moths etc.

     Occasional flights into reality. B)
  • Thank you but no more comments required thank you.
  • As I have said, I have received an answer that I find possible and acceptable.

    No more preaching required!

    Please end this conversation.

Im afraid on a public forum you dont get to end a conversation Steve, if people want to keep discussing it they are perfectly entitled to. You dont of course have to read or reply if you dont wish to.

If you do wish to, Id be interested to know how you positively identified sod webworm? Are you 100% sure that is the culprit? Also it would be useful for other people browsing who may have the same problem to know what solution Marhsall suggested

@steveconwayuk, here's a serious suggestion.  Does sod webworm affect agricultural grassland?  If so, you might get the information you want from an agricultural website.  Farmers are more or less hard-headed businessmen who don't share the gardener's reverence for nature.

Given how rare this pest is in the UK it would be really helpful to give details of how you diagnosed the problem and what the suggested solution is. After all you asked for help on this forum and people took time out to try so why not return the courtesy and help people searching the same problem in the future?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
