Deadheading Bowles Mauve

Dirty HarryDirty Harry Posts: 1,048
Where exactly should I cut when doing this? Right at the bottom of the stem I'm holding here or just below the flower?

Even trying to determine when to do this doesn't seem obvious to me. I read things like 'deadhead spent blooms' on these and yet the thing doesn't appear to have any!

Right down where it meets the main stem. You're only doing it to tidy up the plant really as it isn't making any seed.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

And would you say those flowers in the picture were worth doing?

    They last really well.

It looks like there's still quite a few to come on that stem. I leave them until they run out of flowers altogether but you can cut them like that to add to a vase of cut flowers.
