Tulips turned in to broccoli?!

otterpawsotterpaws Posts: 3
Hi All, I've had a rather strange experience and I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on it for me. My partner bought  some tulip bulbs from a local supermarket which I planted up in a pot. Once they'd died back I was all ready to transplant them to a spot in the garden when I noticed some leaves appearing from the bulbs. I left them to see what happened and I now have a pot full of what appears to be a type of ?sprouting broccoli! I used fresh compost and I don't even have any broccoli seeds and each plant seems to have come from the tulip bulbs. Is anyone able to explain this to me? Thanks in advance.

    Stop taking the drugs?

Or possibly.... start taking them again if they are meds?

Eat it and be thankful, my broccoli always get eaten by caterpillars or aphids.

In my experience the only thing that grows from a tulip bulb and follows the flowers is a tulip seedhead.

I think we need to see some photos of what  you've got  :)

Honestly I’m completely stumped! Maybe it is a weed? It just appears very much like a sprouting broccoli. Not the greatest picture but it was rather sunny when I took it.

Looks like rapeseed or charlock. Is it sited near the bird feeder. ?
I suspect bird seed has germinated and grown.

Ah yes, it was near a bird feeder for a short time. So I guess if the seeds blew in between the tulip leaves it would give the impression of them coming from the bulbs once they’d germinated. Although the leaves do seem different from rapeseed and charlock. But the birdfeeder makes sense!!
