Anyone know what this is and is it about to flower?

    Sempervivum or house leek possibly and yes its a flower. I think the rosette it comes from dies off after flowering

    It's a Sempervivum, also known as Houseleek, and yes, that is a flower stem. When the flower has finished the central rosette will die and others will grow to take its place. They are very easy to propagate, just remove a rosette and put it in a pot with gritty compost. Water very little and it should root. They are good in droughts and used to  grow on roofs, hence the name.

    Thanks for that. The stem in now twice as  long now as it is in the photo.
