Moving plants

I am currently planning an area to site a new shed but this will involve moving some established plants. I am will not be able to replant them whilst I am reviewing a new border. Should I try and keep them temporarily in pots? eg. Skimmia, Ceratostigma (which I know will be coming into flower soon)

If you’ve got to move them anyway then it’s the only option.  Soak them first then take  a big root ball and keep very well watered, not sure in this drought if they will survive, but as they’ve got to be moved anyway, go for it.

  • Yes I have done this in the past. As Lyn says you have to water them a lot in order to keep them alive.
I bought a couple of water butts after my last attempt at doing this as half way through there was a hosepipe ban and I did lose a couple of my beautiful (and huge) peonies. :(

Thanks for replies, not sure when this is happening yet, but there are bound to be 'casualties'  :'(
