Failed potatoes and garlic

I have no flowers on my potato plants so assuming that's because the slugs have eaten the tubers?! Also should I have put the potatoes in a shadier spot? 
Pulled up a couple of garlics because the leaves have started to turn yellow and the bulbs are tiny😳😩. 
Not a good harvest for my first time growing veg!!

    Some varieties of potato don't produce flowers ...don't panic ... have a furtle around in the soil underneath and see what you find  :)

    I always thought that potatoes were ready when the tops start to die down so I'd wait a while.  Have you checked if any tubers are forming?  

    Can't help with garlic as this is my first crop.  All previous attempts in my last garden were frozen to a mush every time.   This time they look fine but the foliage has dried very fast in the last few days so I'm harvesting them all later this pm and laying them out to dry before hanging them to store.

    Maybe yours would fatten a bit of left a week or two more?

    I dipped my hand in like a lucky dip and found loads of potatoes so thank you Dove.
    Obelixx I thought the plant was dying as leaves wilting so I suppose that's the sign the spuds are ready.
     The garlic looked like it was bolting as  buds beginning to form, so have pulled them all up. Maybe I didn't water them enough.

    In the bin they go then, maybe my whole problem is not watering enough. Will try again next year.

    Don't throw them away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :o

    Scrape them and they'll probably be fine ... a little bit blemished but fine to eat.  :)

    I've been growing garlic for a good few years. The key with them is to plant sept/October the previous year and a good hard frost. If you have planted this year...I'd of waited for at least another 3 months before digging them up
