I know! Ridiculous isn't it?  I'm afraid I'm still going to water my garden well, even if I do without baths, and car washing! We pay good money to have water supplied.Never had any water shortages in Spain, but of course it wasn't fit to drink straight from the tap. They had what was called "grey water" which was collected in a deposito for toilet flushing, washing machines and garden watering etc. But there was always a hose pipe restriction,The Guardia made sure no one washed their car with a hose,by cruising up and down the roads!!

Can I presume that if I receive a reduced service I'll be paying a reduced rate, do you think?   Or will the mighty shareholders still be wanting their un-reduced dividend?

Privatisation of water supply .......... totally immoral idea  :#

@Hostafan1 , from the data that I can see, it was a dry winter in England. This is the info for the winter 2017/18 from the Environment Agency (which only hold data for England, not the other parts of the UK). It gives a lot of data on river flow, ground moisture levels and the like. We do get a great deal of regional variation.

March and April were wet, but in Feb 2018 they were predicting hosepipe bans. This is the latest report from the EA.

Exactly.  Apparently it's a question of local storage capacity for treated water and the amount of time needed to treat and then re-fill.  Water consumption has doubled since people got their hosepipes out for paddling pools and sprinkling and that makes for empty storage.

Doh!  The UK does get hot periods and has a rising population.  Too much to expect water supply companies to plan for that?

According to latest reports, the reservoirs in the Midlands are still 80% full in spite of the hot week we've just had.   And the lack of the rain since April.
