Grow from seeds? Saxifraga × urbium (London Pride)

Anna154Anna154 Posts: 4

Hi All,

I had one plant pot of London Pride which and its relatives had survived 4 moves (from my grandparents, to my parents, then again with my parents and finally with me). I'm gutted since it didn't make this spring, such shame since emotional memories (maternal grandparents and my mother who passed away 9 years ago). But I found some old, dried up stems with flowers which I picked last summer and forgot all about until today. I wonder if it is possible to grow plants from the dried seeds? Would it not be amazing, has anyone done this?

Thanks for any help in advance!

It's worth a try. You could put a few on some damp kitchen  towel to see if they sprout a find a cool spot or wait until the temperature drops to do this.

Dried up stems with flowers are not seeds
If you have seeds you could try but that x in the name denotes a hybrid. Could be sterile or not seed true

It's a hybrid plant so it's unlikely to set viable seed I'm afraid. It is possible but don't get your hopes up.

Always have backups of a plant if it has sentimental value. London Pride takes so easily from cuttings too. :/
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Thanks for your comments - I have not checked properly if the flowers now looks like seeds, if they do I'll try when weather cooler, our house is hot at the moment I guess fridge too cool? Yes, I think it is  a hybrid if my memory serves right, my dad doesn't know... I'll let you know if successful - thx again - enjoy the sun!

I wonder if the people who bought the house still have them in the garden, then hopefully they don't mind too much if I take a cutting....? another possibility I guess!

If you live in Essex you are welcome to some of my plants, they multiply like rabbits here!
