String of slug/snail eggs?

I have googled this and can't believe they are snail/slug eggs as they seem much too big. (The lid is about 6in in diameter). Do any of you have personal experience of these?

Are leopard slugs gardener's friends then. ....why? I thought slugs were enemies.

Pauline. Leopard slugs eat other slugs, not plants.

Thanks for that link, Dove. I didn't know that slugs evolved from snails.

Thank you all. I am now convinced. I had thought the slugs in my compost bin were leopard slugs, didn't realise they could grow to 16cm (thanks Dove). At that size the eggs are more believable. Mine are opaque so may be dead.
Gardeners world members are a wonderful mine of information.
