Sweet peas

My sweet peas are growing well and have a now got many flower buds. Unfortunately the stems are drooping. I have planted them in deep pots and I am watering and feeding them adequately. Any ideas please?

  • Your pic. seems to show sweetpeas growing normally. They will straighten up more as they develop but the flower stems do not grow straight at the top.

Oh thanks Joyce that is great, they just seem different this year and feel floppy.   I will be more patient :) .

Are they perennial sweet peas AineB? The flower stems on mine grow like that but straighten up as they bloom.
My annual ones aren't at that stage yet to compare, sorry.

Whichever they are, your plants look fine and healthy 😊.

Thanks Kitty. They are annuals and I live in Sussex.

My sweetpeas look just like that. Don't worry. They are happy and healthy.
The flowers will face up when they fully open.

They are very thirsty plants, and hungry! I water in this hot weather every night when the sun off them and I feed a liquid feed once a week. Mine look identical to yours

Thanks Lily. They are indeed very thirsty and I am feeding them now. I love sweet peas and looking forward to being able to pick many bunches over the summer.
  • Have just picked a big bunch of my sweetpeas and the room smells wonderful. Am going to share them with a friend who has just had surgery on two of her fingers for arthritic joints and is in plaster and bandages.

Oh Joyce how wonderful for you and I am sure a bunch of beautifully  scented sweet peas will cheer up your friend.
