should i water a mature plum tree

Hi all,
I've inherited a plum tree on my recently acquired allotment plot. It is about 4m tall and laden with plums that are around 5cm long and 2cm wide. I've thinned it out to around 5cm between fruits. My question, given the dry summer we're having, is should I attempt to water it? Given it's size, and thus the size and probably bepth of the roots, I wonder if it at all practical.
Kind regards.

Thanks, pansyface! I thought it would be futile. Here's hoping those stomata hold back some reserves for some bulging, Ripe fruit :-)
