Browning leaves on corkscrew hazel

Hi all, see pic below, my young, recently planted (Feb this year) coryllus contorta (corkscrew hazel) has some browning leaves.

It's in a spot which receives full sun for some of the day, shade and dappled shade for other parts.  I've kept it watered as with the other plants but recently along with new growth some of the leaves have recently browned in a way that looks kinda odd.

Not sure what to make of it ... any ideas?

It looks like a mixture of harsh sun/wind followed by rain damage. What sort of soil do you have? Your soil looks very dry looking. Even though you have mulched, for a young plant, they still need heavy watering in the summer months. I don't know your watering regime the last month or so, but I think your plant is most likely under watered. Water in the late evenings to converse water, but also water slowly and directly into the roots.
  • Ok will try that.  We have heavy clay.  I’m always scared of OVER watering usually!!

I think that's just weather  damage - bit too much sun on it. My oak leaf hydrangea in the back garden has some crispy edges on it. It'll be ok once the usual wet stuff comes back, but the foliage might die off and drop. They're fine in drier, sunnier conditions than the other kinds, and it's just been hotter and drier than usual so I'm not too worried. The one in the front garden [north west facing] is fine - no brown anywhere. Just gets a little more shade than the other one  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Yeah I wondered that.  It’s south facing albeit in front of the side wall of our house and gets blasted with full rays most of the day.  I watered a bit more tonight.
