Deadheading sweet peas im

Hi
I’m growing sweet peas for the first time and loving it so far. Looking for very specific advice on how to dead-head them. Most of the advice seems to be about picking them for the house but I want the colour in my garden. Should I just nip the tops off with my fingers or cut off the whole stem? Do I use my fingers or secateurs? Also despite me checking them every night there still seem to be pods emerging-in this weather can they grow a small pod in a day?! Thanks in advance for your help!

If you don't remove the old flower heads they will set seed which is an indication to the plant that it's work is done and it can prepare for death...
Keep picking the flowers before the pods form and the plant will keep producing flowers.
I snip the dead head off at the base of the flower stem.

as they flower prolifically I usually pick half for the house and still leave lots of colour in the garden. I use secateurs to snip them off
