Which grasses may be suitable for my circumstances?

Hi. I'm new, and looking forward to learning from more knowledgeable people here. Thanks in advance for any responses I may receive!

I have a pot, 80cm x 30cm x 45cm deep. This is located very close to the base of the front of my house. This wall faces due north.

I would like to plant ornamental grass in the box but after much reading it seems there is limited options. I have almost settled on Japanese Forest Grass of some sort or Carex 'Evergold' sedge. I'd like more options to choose from, are there any? Do the plants that I've already identified suit the pot location?

If grass type plants are a no-no altogether, how about Hostas? Ideally I am looking for a very low maintenance perrenial plant that has bright green foliage, not particularly interested in flowers.

Could somebody please advise?

Very grateful

I  have a planter in a similar North facing position and used Carex oshimensis Everest, together with a lime green Heuchera and a small white winter flowering heather. Another possible grass would be Stipa tenuissima which looks good with spring bulbs.
Hostas would work well too for summer, but they disappear in winter, while Heucheras are evergreen. They also come in lots of different colours, so you can play with different combinations. In another pot I combined a brown and caramel coloured one with brown Carex Milk Chocolate. There are also some fantastic new large Heucheras available, with muckh bigger leaves and more of a presence.
Have a look on https://www.plantagogo.com/home.php for some ideas.

I have Carex ice dance, hostas and heuchera in a shady area in front of my house and they work quite well. Some are in pots and some in the ground.
  • Thanks very much! That's fantastic! I'm off to Google this stuff.

Forgot to mention that I'm in South Wales, not sure if this makes any difference to the above suggestions?
