    What are the shrubs etc which you already have? If you don't know put some pictures on here and we will try and help. 
  • I agree with you and would want a bit of privacy. For me tho I would suggest breaking up the garden into sections. I don't know if your garden is south facing etc but to give you an idea maybe have a pergola with a honeysuckle or clematis growing over the top, have a winding path through the garden and create little areas of interest, either a small pond with babbling water, small bench nestled inbetween fragrant bushes and flowers, a little veg plot etc. Use wooden trellis as a screen or use bushes to create these small areas that will feel intimate and you will forget about your neighbours.... 
    That is unless you need to keep all the grass for children?
