how do I prevent beetles infesting my onions.This year harvested onions have beetles under first two layers,Will the onions store If I peel off the layers with beetles in and then dry onions in the sun as it is so hot

    I would dispose of all the onions, preferably by incineration, or in council waste bin.  It sounds like you have onion fly.   The maggots burrow into the onions and then rot sets in.  Peeling them down to untouched onion, you could use fresh , but they will not store.

    Thanks for that I have also been told to look up allium leaf miner as that is a pest on allotments
