Single-flowered, repeat-flowering, strongly-scented YELLOW shrub rose suggestions needed

Hi - I'm hoping to plant one of these this autumn.
I love David Austin roses for their repeat flowering and I'm not sure how strong the scent is of their new rose 'Tottering-by-Gently'. Also considering shrub rose 'Golden Wings' (not David Austin) because it repeat flowers, but are there others similar and how strong is 'Golden Wings' ' scent?

'The Poet's Wife' was recommended in this discussion (with pictures).

I planted a bare root Golden Celebration in late March and it’s already a sturdy plant with good blooms and a decent scent. It’s more open than many of the DA tightly packed rosettes. It likes full sun, I think it copes better than most with hot, dry conditions - it was recommended on DA’s website as being suitable for warm climates which is why I bought it. Increasingly a concern for the UK I would think, given your weather at the moment?!

  • I'll have a look at those, Nollie and Blue Onion, but I would prefer a single flower if possible :-) And yes, weather conditions are a factor. I'm now leaning towards 'Golden Wings' but I don't know how fragrant it is. Opinions seem to vary.

'Golden Wings' is probably your best bet, I grew it a long time ago and don't recall about the fragrance...so probably not that strong.. single flowered yellow roses are not noted for scent generally..   The Tottering rose I have smells lightly of musk but you would have to ask the breeder whether the scent is stronger on a very large bush, as this rose is new to all of us.

Does it have to be yellow?  There are single flowered white roses with prominent yellow stamens that smell good... 'Rosa moschata' for instance...

  • Well  - it's a sort of yellow theme in that part of the garden. Also I have a fondness for light yellow  single roses, but wanted a repeat-flowering one.

Don't tempt me, Marlorena - I don't need much excuse to buy more roses!! I'm also lusting after 'Falstaff' as a strongly-scented, deep red rose for another spot....

Do you have 'Kew Gardens'?... perhaps I could tempt you further?  because I think it should be in every rose garden, if you love single roses.  It opens yellow but fades to white.  Light musky scent, and always a mass of blooms... and because it's thornless I think it's one of the finest shrubs of any sort ever introduced here..

Last May,  when my rose was about 8 x 6 foot..

  • Wow, that is a stunning rose! Must check that one out! Where did you get it and does it repeat flower?

It's a David Austin rose, so I probably got it from them, or the garden centre.  Yes it's in full bloom from mid May to October with scattered blooms on to January even before it just about gives up for the year...or when freezing winter sets in...
thanks... I'm glad you liked it...

  • Now I'm in a complete quandary....! I might have to uproot some trees to fit them all in....:D
