What are these plants growing?

I have just got into planted my first edibles. Nothing terribly exciting Chillis, Rocket and some spring onions.

However, I have found these growing in my trug,  and I’m not sure what they are. Any ideas? I have a picture of my young rocket to compare.

I only know them as weeds - they get up to about 8" and a flower head starts to form. I'm not aware of any that have got past that stage :) but I have them all over the garden.

    Hi Scott

I personally consider you lucky.  Fathen, or Chenopodium, from the Greek Chena -Χήνα: goose, and podi- πόδι: foot, is a delicious herb, extremely good for you.  Its common name in Greece is vleta- βλήτα where it's eaten cooked and served with olive oil, lemon juice and sea salt as a salad.

If you ever find yourself there, try it!

It's known to have been eaten for over four thousand years and it hasn't killed... all of them yet!

It's one of the goosefoots, so fat hen, or good king Henry most likely, both annoying but harmless weeds, and both edible both the leaves (treat as spinach) and the seeds.
