Lillies not flowering.

I bought an Asiatic lily with 3 stems and only one has bloomed (3 flowers) and an oriental lily and none has bloomed.  I potted them up into a bigger pot when I bought them using run of the mill compost. Been watering them when its been very warm.  The oriental one had green "buds" but it's been like that for ages and the info tag says June, July, August flowering.
Asiatic lily.
oriental lilyAsiatic lily close up.Just wondering, do you think this one had flowered before I bought it?  Though there was no sign of flowers.  Looks like it's had flowers cut off.

Those stems do look like they have been cut at the base.

Looks very much like it’s flowered to me. When you deadhead them they snap at the base like that

I concur with what others say, already flowered and been snapped off. The other one with the big green buds will flower, just that it takes a while before they open. Lilies are heavy feeders so a good liquid tomato feed will do them good.

Did you buy them in the green (potted and already growing) ? Personally i have found it more successful to grow them from bulbs. You have more say in how they are raised then  :) just have a good look and feel of the packet to make sure the bulbs are firm and not rotted. Towards the end of the season they are often sold off cheaply.

Yes they were already growing when I bought them.  The card says they flower from may-aug so how come more buds are not forming? Should I give this one a feed too?

I see what you mean. They look very healthy but what the heck happened to your flowers? No  reason they will not flower next year though. A good feed of bonemeal will do them good.

It's because they're young plants. They won't keep flowering till August when they're still immature. It takes a couple of years till they get to that point - and they'll need repotted or planted into the ground well before that. The pots they're in won't be big enough.
The flowering time [as well as heights and widths ] refers to the eventual time, height, spread etc.
I've never really had lilies flowering in August, but it will depend on where you are and your own growing conditions.  :)

The Oriental Lily actually started forming new buds a few days after I posted so hopefully I'll get a few more.  The Asiatic one still hasn't flowered, but the buds are getting bigger.  Hopefully that's a good sign too. (No close up cos its raining)
