Grapevine and hops

JoeXJoeX Posts: 1,783
Hi all,

My hops took office a rocket a few weeks ago, but my five grapevines aren’t going anywhere fast these last few weeks - I thought the sun would have them climbing the arches they’re tied into quickly.

Is there anything to do with these plants? Feeds? Or just leave them watered regularly through the summer?

Cheers TP

Five grapevines is a lot  :o

My one grapevine (Boskoop Glory) is growing fast and I've already done one lot of pruning ... but it's well established having been planted at least five years ago, and fruits well.
    When did you plant yours?
Although grapes like free draining soil, they do like plenty of water too ... at least mine seem to.  :)

Hops is about seven foot tall now!  Planted a couple of months ago.

Grapes: Mostly in Autumn.  Did a little thread here on them:

Probably about two and a half foot tall, 3ft the tallest.

I haven’t done any pruning.  Mulched them months ago, added blood/fish/bone and tied them in. That’s it.

They're only babies ... all the growth is going on underground  :)

Not expecting a crop this year, but looks like this season will be the best for Kentish wine for a long time ;)

Hop leaves have lots of holes in them - and some brown spots. Anything to worry about?

    One year on.

All have grape nodules forming :)

Two vines seem to be doing well, but I think I need to trim back as they’re a bit like bushes:

    Three are still relatively small.
