Why are my ferns looking so ‘scabby’?

A few months ago, I re-potted some ferns given to me as a gift.
Since then they don’t seem to be doing too well.
There are new growths below, but most fronds are going brown at the edges, and they look limp.
The positioning is a well lit frosted bathroom window, they live in a moist environment (exposed to shower mist every day) and are only watered when soil is not too damp.
What could be the problem?
Would pruning help, and could the pot be too big?
Apologies for the poor quality photo - more to come if needed.

I would cut off all the old leaves, leaving the new ... give them a good mist spray at least twice a week in the summer ... even a steamy bathroom isn't really damp enough when this type of warm spell drys out the air.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Indeed, misting is the key as Dove says  :)  I've got a maidenhead fern and i need to mist it twice a day right now at least.

Ferns prefer a shady spot out of direct sunlight.
  • Ta very much for your advice guys, I've given them both a good trim (they're already looking a lot greener with the brown bits lopped off!).
Im going to invest in a mister I think, and long term thinking of putting down some moss mulch to retain moisture?
    Thanks again 👍
