What tree is this?

Hello.

I saw this unusual tree while out in Menorca and can't find out what it is. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

    Not a tree, the leaves are around the base and the tall bit is the flower stalk

    Thanks all. Yes they are very colourful and interesting. I wasn't sure it was real at first. Never seen anything like that before and I didn't realise it was the flower and the actual plant is near ground level.
