Banana Plant - side shoot

TerrysWorldTerrysWorld Posts: 174
Had my Banana plant some 2 years and kept in a pot, it is also kept in the shed during the winter wrapped in straw.

Keeping well watered and fed during the summer months.

Recently noticed a side shoot has appeared from the base just below the surface.

Should I leave or remove it or anything else.

It’s a pup, another baby plant. You may be able to detach when you pull the mother plant up for the winter, then pot up the pup.

  • Make sure when you detach, you detach with some roots attached to the pup!

Thanks all albiet a little late.

Did not do anything with the pups in 2018.
But currently I have 7 pups coming out from the mother. But are not coming from the ground as the video, but from within the old leaf joints around the main stem above the ground.

Do I remove them in the same manner and replant.
