There are plenty of youtube videos on how to take cuttings. Use either vermiculite or sharp sand - 50:50 with your compost. I use clay half pans but any pot will do. Keep your cuttings moist and shady. Now is the time to take half ripe cuttings - box, lavender, penstemons salvias etc. Delphiniums - no. Take lots of cuttings, more than you think you'll need. You can overwinter them outside if you put them under a shrub for protection.

Most cuttings do best in gritty compost, and if you put two or three in a little pot, put them in round the edge. That helps keep them warmer and they also drain better.
