This gorgeous plant suddenly appeared in an old pot I think it is an orchid. Any advice welcomed.

  • Lucky you its a native orchid.
  •  I have painstakingly removed a lot of small weeds from around it and there appears to be a lot of moss on the surface. Is it best to leave the moss. Not sure what the other plant is either but suspect it could be an alpine .
  • Wow that’s brilliant thanks for identifying it. My son and daughter in law have recently bought a farmhouse and I found this pot dumped around the back of the building so brought it to my house to take care of it.

Wish that would appear in my garden ; looks like Dactylorhiza fuchsii or the Common Spotted Orchid . Very nice !
Don't attempt to modify the soil in any way , and avoid feeding . Plants like that are best left to their own devices .
  • Thanks for the advice. I will leave it alone and enjoy it.

That's lovely,a blast from the past for me as I haven't seen one of those since I was a child on a school nature walk.
